(02:24) This is an abridged transcript of the podcast. Boeing (NYSE:BA) workers will vote today on approving a tentative labor contract. If they reject the deal and vote to strike, the strike could happen as early as Friday. Under the tentative deal, Boeing (BA) would raise wages by 25% over four years and commit to build its next airplane to replace the 737 in the Pacific Northwest, among other terms. But many workers were unhappy with the deal as they had been seeking a 40% wage hike over the contract period and the reinstatement of a pension plan that was scrapped in 2014. Around 30,000 workers who work on the manufacture of 737 MAX, 767 and 777 planes and are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will vote on their first full contract in 16 years. Work stoppage will happen on Friday if a majority vote to reject the preliminary deal and at least two-thirds vote to strike. \"The response from people is it's not good enough,\" said Jon Holden, president of union IAM District 751. \"I think it will be voted down, and our members will vote to strike.\" The union negotiations are a major test for Boeing's (BA) new CEO Kelly Ortberg, who took over in August and is tasked with improving the company's safety and quality culture. Microsoft-backed OpenAI is in discussions for a $6.5B funding round from investors at a valuation of $150B. Bloomberg reported This is on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the situation. Bloomberg said, citing one person with knowledge of the private information that OpenAI is also in talks with banks for a $5B revolving credit facility. The people familiar with the deal noted that the discussions are still ongoing and the numbers could change, the report said. If true, the new valuation is nearly double the $86B valuation the firm received earlier this year. BurgerFi International (NASDAQ:BFI), the parent company of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Wings, and its namesake burger chain, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The filing includes only the 67 corporate-owned locations of both brands. Franchisee-owned locations are excluded from the bankruptcy filing. The company says all 144 corporate and franchised locations will continue normal, uninterrupted operations. “In the face of a drastic decline in post-pandemic consumer spending amidst sustained inflation and increasing food and labor costs, we need to stabilize the business in a structured process,\" said Jeremy Rosenthal, Chief Restructuring Officer. \"We are confident that this process will allow us to protect and grow our brands and to continue the operational turnaround started less than 12 months ago and secure additional capital.\" The company says they face “legacy challenges” including declining same store sales, high employee turnover, and a stale menu. The initial turnaround plan resulted in the closure of 19 underperforming, corporate-owned restaurants, and reduced related operating expenses. BurgerFi (BFI) is just the latest in a recent string of restaurant bankruptcies. In just the past 8 months, the softer consumer spending environment precipitated the bankruptcy filings for Red Lobster, Buca di Beppo, Rubio's, and Tijuana Flats.
