However, the precise timing and duration of the La Niña event and the evolution of its strength through time will determine the magnitude of these risks, BMI analysts said, in their outlook for the impact of La Niña on global agricultural commodities prices & production.  In line with current projections, BMI anticipates that La Niña will likely span Q4 2024-Q1 2025, and expects that the now complete dissipation of the 2023-2024 El Niño event could well have as large an impact on global agricultural production in 2024/25 as the arrival of La Niña. ETFs: (NYSEARCA:WEAT), (CORN), (SOYB), (DBA), (MOO) Conditions in the soybean market, \"with projections indicating that it will be well-supplied in MY2024/25 and, thus, have a not inconsiderable cushion should negative production shocks occur, preclude significant La Niña risks.\" As for wheat prices, the brokerage believes that La Niña price risks are mixed, but also highlights that several major wheat-producing regions are located in areas that do not tend to be sensitive to La Niña weather conditions, with the result that price risks in either direction are contained. Overall, BMI (a unit of Fitch Solutions) holds that La Niña prices risks to the major grain and soybean markets are limited considering its expected mild strength. The brokerage does not expect that La Niña, all other things being equal, will lead agricultural market development in 2024-2025, and concludes that bearish factors including ample supplies, uncertain demand, and broader macro factors will shape price development in the period. Meanwhile, it has also identified other risk factors that could disrupt its core view. First, however, it cautions that a stronger- or longer-than-expected La Niña would see an increase in associated production risks, which could well have significant price implications if major exporting regions are affected.
