The People’s Bank of China earlier in the day announced a 50 basis point-cut to the cash reserves banks must keep – its second this year – to bolster economic growth. It also cut rates on existing mortgages and minimum down payments for buying homes, and announced 800B yuan ($114.07B) liquidity measures to support the stock market. According to a note by Bank of America strategists led by Michael Hartnett, “Unloved commodities (industrial metals), materials [and] international stocks” are the “best rotation ‘Breadth’ plays so long as China stimulus means 2% new ‘floor’ for China 10-year yields.”  Hartnett’s team said total stimulus could total $560B, or more than 3% of China’s gross domestic product. Currently, investors are the most underweight in commodities since June 2017 while Chinese stocks are at a 50-year low against US equities, they added.
