Home Depot, Lowe's Seen With Improving Trends in Home Purchasing Report -- Market Talk

Dow Jones09-26

1003 ET - The latest data from a recent home purchasing report should foreshadow improving comparable store sales trends for home home-related retailers, says Michael Baker, analyst at D.A. Davidson in a research note. Following the Mortgage Bankers Association's latest weekly housing purchasing index and refinance data, Baker says three takeaways from the release are worth noting. He says the weekly purchasing index data series hit a milestone, turning positive on an adjusted year-over-year basis for the first time since May 2021; weekly refinance data continues to speak; and the percent of mortgages that are refinancing also continues to spike. Baker says this data should foreshadow improving trends for retailers including Home Depot, Lowe's and Lovesac. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
