Which brings us to today’s SA Asks question: When will the Fed cut rates again? Will the Federal Open Market Committee vote for another cut when it meets again in early November, or take a “wait and see” approach until 2025? We asked Seeking Alpha analysts Jacob Hess of MTS Insights, Victor Dergunov of The Financial Prophet, Manika Premsingh, and Chris Lau of DIY Value Investing for their thoughts. Jacob Hess: The Fed will probably cut two more times this year, 25 bps at each of the next meetings, before they move back into a position of data dependence. As of right now, the door is open for cuts in the first half of 2025 as well, but the chances of them occurring are more reliant on the path of the unemployment rate and core PCE inflation readings. Victor Dergunov: The Fed will cut interest rates again on November 7th, and there is about a 60% probability that we will see another 50 bps cut.  Manika Premsingh: After the start of the rate cut cycle with a bang this month, the Fed will continue reducing rates in November and December as well. Based on the macroeconomic data so far, 25bps cuts in each of the meetings are likely, bringing the total rate cuts to 1 percentage point in 2024. However, the cuts could be bigger, especially if GDP growth for Q3 2024, which is due for release at the end of October, softens significantly.  Chris Lau: The Fed may not cut rates in November, depending on October’s economic data. It may cut rates on December 18, 2024.
