The sector, which holds 9% weightage on the S&P500 and boasts of established players including Google-parent Alphabet (GOOG), and Meta Platforms (META), rose 24% since the start of the year, outperforming the 19% rise in the broader S&P500 Index.  The Communication Services sector gained nearly 6% during the third quarter, compared to the 5% rise in the broader market. According to Seeking Alpha's Quant Rating system, the communication services sector has an average health score of 3.40. The system awards grades based on quantitative measures, like valuation, earnings growth and recent stock performance. The highest possible score for any individual company is a 5. Looking in to individual companies in the sector, four out of 22 stocks are rated as Buy and above based on Quant Ratings, 18 stocks are rated Neutral, while none of the stocks are considered Sell or lower. T-Mobile (TMUS) is leading with the highest Quant score of 4.91, with the score getting boosted by A+ in growth and profitability factors. The telecom company, in July, raised its forecast for full-year cash flow and said it expects to add more customers after reporting solid results for its second quarter. Social media giant Platforms (META), which posted second-quarter results that beat market expectations and issued strong guidance, has a Quant score of 3.49. Meta’s quarterly results have pushed analysts on Wall Street to maintain their bullish view on the stock. Another important stock in the sector - Alphabet (GOOG), which has a market value of over $2 trillion, has Quant score of 3.44 and a Hold rating. The Google parent posted better-than-expected growth in revenues and profit. However, the stock still fell following results as investors looked to be keying in on the second quarter's areas of concern. Other established stocks in the sector including Netflix (NFLX) and Disney (DIS) have Quant scores of 3.45 and 3.43, respectively. News Corp (NWSA) has the lowest Quant score of 2.78. The Ruper Murdoch-owned company, which owns The Wall Street Journal, The Sun and publisher HarperCollins, gained nearly 6% so far this year, underperforming the benchmark index. Seeking Alpha analyst Michael Gayed noted that XLC’s targeted exposure to top communication services companies like Meta, Alphabet, and Netflix provide growth and stability, but high concentration risks and sector cyclicality remain a concern. “Investors who see promise in the long-term growth of digital communication and entertainment, and who don't mind the fund's focused strategy, might find XLC a useful addition to their diverse portfolio,” Gayed added.
