Tesla $(TLSA)$: Tesla shares fell 6% in premarket trading after Chief Executive Elon Musk revealed the company's first driverless vehicle. The robotaxi marks a strategic pivot for the electric-vehicle pioneer as it seeks to derive much of its future business from robotics and artificial intelligence.
Uber Technologies $(UBER)$: Meanwhile, shares in the ride-hailing company, which last month entered a new partnership involving self-driving cars, rallied almost 3% before the opening bell. Shares in smaller rival Lyft $(LYFT)$ also climbed.
BP $(BP)$, (UK:BP): BP warned that weaker refining margins would reduce quarterly earnings by $400 million to $600 million as lower oil prices continue to weigh on the energy sector. BP stock traded modestly lower.
JPMorgan Chase $(JPM)$, Wells Fargo $(WFC)$, Bank of New York Mellon $(BK)$ and BlackRock $(BLK)$ are due to report results ahead of the opening bell.
