Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was fractionally lower.

US equity indexes fell amid surging government bond yields and crude oil futures in midday trading on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.3% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 0.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.1% down, while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was fractionally lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.6% lower. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 2.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 2.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 2%; United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 1.6%. Natural gas edged up 2.7% higher, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 0.8%.

Gold climbed 0.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.4%. Silver gained 2.5%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 0.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.6%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.8% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) shed 0.7%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 1.1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dipped 0.8%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 1.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 0.3%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
