Hawaiian Electric Shares Rise After Disclosing Citadel Stake

Shares of Hawaiian Electric Industries gained after disclosing that Ken Griffin's firm Citadel and related funds have purchased a stake in the company.

The stock jumped 6.8% to $10.34 in after-hours trading Friday. It ended the regular session flat at $9.75, leaving the shares down 31% this year.

Hawaiian Electric said in a regulatory filing yepthat Citadel Advisors, Citadel Advisors Holdings and Citadel GP each own about 3.6 million shares of its common stock, or about 2.2% of the utility company's total outstanding stock.

Both Citadel Securities Group and Citadel Securities GP own approximately 5.3 million shares of Hawaiian Electric, or 3.2% of its outstanding stock, according to the filing. Griffin owns about 8.9 million shares, equivalent to 5.4% of the company's outstanding shares.
