BYD Still Has Strong Overseas Market Potential -- Market Talk

Dow Jones10-31

0419 GMT - Bernstein analysts remain confident on BYD's strong overseas market potential. The Chinese electric-vehicle maker's overseas sales volume at 94,000 units in the third quarter was up 33% compared with a year earlier, but down 10.5% compared with 2Q, they note. Bernstein attributes the sequential decline to the shifting of production capacity to domestic sales. BYD has also built some inventory overseas from the strong push in 1H. Bernstein forecasts overseas sales volume at 450,000 units from China this year. It maintains an outperform rating for the stock and raises target price to HK$350 from HK$310. Shares last at HK$285.40. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
