There hasn't been much to differentiate Nutanix's and the industry's revenue growth lately.   Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to improve, justifying the currently elevated P/S. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.     Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 15%  each year as estimated by the analysts watching the company.  That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 20% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.  With this information, we find it concerning that Nutanix is trading at a P/S higher than the industry.  It seems most investors are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects, but the analyst cohort is not so confident this will happen.  There's a good chance these shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the growth outlook.    The Final Word  Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
