Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.2%.

US equity indexes rose after midday Monday amid gains in most government bond yields as investors focused on quarterly earnings from index heavyweights.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) lost 0.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell about 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.2%, iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) advanced 0.2% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) added 0.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 1.3% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 0.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 2.9%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 5.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) dipped 5.6%. Natural gas shed 8.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 8,2%.

Gold was up 0.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.1%. Silver added 0.7%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 0.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) traded 0.6% higher, retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 0.5% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.2%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 1%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) was up 0.5%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were about 0.6% higher each.
