Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Friday's Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 1%.

US equity indexes rose after quarterly earnings from Amazon.com (AMZN) lifted sentiment and government bond yields traded mixed amid a noisy jobs report.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) shed 0.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) lost 0.1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) added 1% each.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 2% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) climbed 1.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 1.7% higher, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 1.6%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.8%. Natural gas shed 2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.1%.

Gold was up 0.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.1%. Silver fell 0.2%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 0.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 1.6% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 2.1% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.6%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.7%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were trending higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) retreated 0.3%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were rising.
