IonQ (IONQ) shares were up 36% in recent Thursday trading after the company said it partnered with Hamamatsu Photonics' NKT Photonics unit to acquire advanced laser systems.
NKT Photonics will provide three prototype optical subsystems by 2025 to support the commercialization of IonQ's data center-ready quantum systems, including the IonQ Tempo and future barium-based computers, the company said.
The partnership will support IonQ in creating quantum computers that can easily fit into modern data centers, with NKT Photonics' fiber laser technology offering advantages in cost, performance and design, it added.
