Philip Morris Unit Secures US FDA Renewal of General snus' Approval as a Modified Risk Tobacco Product

MT Newswires Live11-12

Philip Morris International (PM) said late Monday that the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a renewal of a risk modification order submitted by the company's Swedish Match USA affiliate for eight General snus smoke-free oral tobacco products.

The company said an approved modified risk tobacco product "significantly" reduces harm and risks of tobacco-related diseases for individual tobacco users.

The modified risk order, which allows Swedish Match to communicate with legal-age consumers via its website, was first granted by the US regulator in October 2019.

Philip Morris said the renewal enables its unit to use of the modified risk claim to reach more legal-age consumers of traditional tobacco products.
