Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.3%.

US equity indexes were mixed in midday trading on Monday as declining technology shares restrained the Nasdaq Composite.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both gained 0.5%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.8%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) both declined.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 3.6% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 3.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 1.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) advanced 5.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 5.2%.

Commodities

Crude oil fell 3%, and United States Oil Fund (USO) dropped 3.2%. Natural gas rose 9.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) soared 9.6%.

Gold fell 2.8% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 2.6%. Silver declined 2.5%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) shed 2.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose fractionally; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) both climbed.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 1.7%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) gained 0.5% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.6%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.1%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) fell 0.1% and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) rose fractionally. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) gained.
