Market Chatter: CACI International Fined $42 Million for Role in Abu Ghraib Detainee Abuse

MT Newswires Live11-13

CACI International (CACI) shares responsibility with the US Army for abusing detainees at Abu Ghraib prison and should pay $42 million in damages to three Iraqi men, The Washington Post reported Tuesday, citing a federal jury decision.

The verdict marks the first time that a civilian contractor has been held legally responsible for the mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib facility, according to the report.

CACI's lawyers had argued that the company's employees were interrogators at Abu Ghraib prison and were not involved in the abuses in any way, the report said.

CACI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
