Fluor (FLR) said Friday that its joint venture has obtained a limited notice to proceed with the design phase of Units 3 & 4 at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania, operated by SN Nuclearelectrica.
The contract was signed at the COP29 climate change conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday by SN Nuclearelectrica subsidiary EnergoNuclear, Flour said. The new units will nearly double the power output of the plant, currently producing around 1.4 gigawatts of electricity, Flour added.
The Fluor-led joint venture, including AtkinsRealis, Sargent & Lundy, and Ansaldo Nucleare, will provide engineering plans, cost estimates, and safety assessments as part of the project's next stages, Flour said.
Fluor shares were up nearly 4% in recent trading.
