Truist Financial named Brad Bender as its chief risk officer, succeeding Clarke Starnes in the role.

The financial-services company on Wednesday said that Bender, who brings two decades of experience at the firm and most recently served as interim chief information officer, will remain on the Truist Operating Council.

Starnes, who is also retiring as vice chair, will work closely with Bender over the coming months in an advisory capacity to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities, the company said.

Starnes joined Truist Financial in 1982, and took over the chief risk officer and vice chair positions in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
