Beer Sales Rose in Not-So-Sober October -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-13

1012 ET - October was a heady month for beer sales, according to the latest data from TD Cowen. Combined beer sales were up 2.6% during the month, likely driven by drier weather in Texas, New York and Illinois, the top states for beer, TD Cowen analysts say. Molson Coors saw trends improve, Anheuser-Busch Inbev logged a 1.6% gain for the month, and Modelo maker Constellation Brands was a standout with a better-than-expected 9.4% jump in sales, the analysts say. Wine sales meanwhile slipped 2.7% year-over-year while liquor sales, excluding prepared cocktail drinks, were down slightly. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
