BHP Group's (ASX:BHP) subsidiary, BHP Billiton Brazil, said it will consider a Brazilian federal court ruling on charges related to the 2015 failure of Samarco's Fundão tailings dam once it has been served with the decision, according to a Friday filing with the Australian bourse.
Recent media reports said the court has ruled that Samarco, BHP Brazil, Vale, and Samarco's independent consultant VogBR are not liable for criminal offenses related to the dam failure, according to the filing.
The company said it will review the decision to assess implications and determine its next steps.
