Exchange-Traded Funds Lower, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.5%.

US benchmark stock indexes traded lower midday Tuesday after hitting all-time highs the day before.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) dipped 0.4%, and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell 0.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) shed 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 2.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 2.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 1.6%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 1.6%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 0.6%, and United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.2%. Natural gas edged up 0.1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was down 0.4%.

Gold fell 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 1%. Silver rose 0.3%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) eased 0.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) eased slightly; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.6%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) edged down 0.1% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 1.2%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 1.1%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) shed 1.2%, and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fell past 1%. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 1.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) lost 1.1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
