Trump's Cabinet Picks May Add Downside Risks to China Auto Companies -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-14

0213 GMT - Trump's cabinet picks may lead to near-term downside risks for China auto names, Daiwa analysts write in a note. The appointment of Marco Rubio as U.S. Secretary of State will likely raise concerns for companies like Contemporary Amperex Technology, which the politician has targeted before, they add. However, risks to CATL's operation should be limited as the company does not rely on the U.S. for upstream supply, they add. The Chinese battery maker's licensing with local U.S. companies, including Ford, may alleviate some political concerns. The appointment of Elon Musk as one of the leaders in the Department of Government Efficiency could also be a positive for Tesla China's supply chain, they say.
