Health-care companies fell sharply after reports that Donald Trump will pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his nominee for head of Health and Human Services Department.

Vaccine makers Moderna and Novavax fell sharply. Shares of Hims & Hers slid after Amazon.com said it would offer cheap treatments for concerns like hair loss, skin care, and erectile dysfunction, directly competing with the telehealth startup.

Pharmacy-goods maker Reckitt Benckiser is looking to respond faster to shifts in demand for over-the-counter pharmaceuticals by moving more of its manufacturing to the U.S., its largest market.

German pharmaceutical concern Merck KGaA reported third-quarter earnings growth above analysts' expectations.
