Judge Narrows Scope of FTC Antitrust Suit Against Meta

Meta Platforms (META) won a victory in its antitrust suit on Wednesday when US District Judge James Boasberg effectively narrowed the case against the social media giant.

Boasberg threw out some allegations by the US Federal Trade Commission, suggesting the company will face a scaled-back trial over its alleged dominance of social networking, Bloomberg reported.

A Meta spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email that "we are confident that the evidence at trial will show that the acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp have been good for competition and consumers."

The spokesperson added that the FTC "is wrongly continuing to assert that no deal is ever truly final, and businesses can be punished for innovating. We will review the opinion when it's filed."

The FTC did not reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
