Dick's Sporting Goods Likely Had Tricky 3Q, Holidays Look Promising -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-19

1225 ET - Dick's Sporting Good's 3Q results, expected next week, are likely going to be a bit of a mixed bag. The company's new store formats are driving growth, and the back-to-school season was probably strong, UBS analysts say in a research note. But at the same time, a scheduling shift will hurt back-to-school comps, while recent hurricanes and a warmer-than-typical October likely weighed on demand, they add. The set up is tricky, analysts say, but they expect the company to back its FY outlook. Looking ahead, the company should have a good holiday season: "Its assortment is filled with items that are in-demand for the holidays," they write. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
