SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile joined the battery swapping alliance of Contemporary Amperex Technology (SHE:300750), or CATL, Yicai Global reported Tuesday.
Zhou Xing, general manager of branding and communications at SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, said its Wuling Yangguang minivan will be the first commercial vehicle to use CATL's Choco-SEB swappable battery blocks, according to the report. The minivan will be launched in the market in 2025.
CATL is in talks with other automakers and expects others to soon join its battery swapping alliance, YiCai Global wrote.
SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile is a joint venture among General Motors, SAIC Motor (SHA:600104) and Wuling Motors (HKG:0305).
