Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.8%.

US equity indexes rose in midday trading Monday amid gains in Tesla (TSLA), while higher government bond yields undermined risk sentiment.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both added 1.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 1.4%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 1.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 0.9%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2.8%, and United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 3%. Natural gas edged up 3.4%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 2.4%.

Gold added 1.8% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 1.9%. Silver rose 2.8%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 3% higher.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) edged up 0.9% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) climbed 0.5%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) moved up 0.1%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were mixed with the latter rising. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dropped 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) added 0.1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
