Rates are essentially the Fed's braking mechanism. When the economic car is moving too fast and, for example, inflation is high, the Fed raises interest rates to slow things down. That's what happened in 2022 and 2023.More recently, it's started to ease its foot on the brakes to allow our economic car to gain more momentum. The Fed has cut rates by 0.75% in the past few months. That's expected to continue next year.
