Hong Kong Shares Fall 1.9% as Tech Stocks Weigh -- Market Talk

0843 GMT - Hong Kong shares ended lower, weighed by technology stocks. Investors are awaiting economic data, including Hong Kong retail sales, for clues on the strength of the economy. Tech companies were among the biggest losers, with Baidu dropping 8.6% after reporting lower revenue for the second straight quarter. Alibaba declined 4.4% and Meituan shed 3.2%. Among the few gainers were BYD Electronic, which added 4.3%, and Nongfu Spring, which was 2.8% higher. The Hang Seng Index fell 1.9% to close at 19229.97; the Hang Seng Tech Index declined 2.6% to 4246.20. (tracy.qu@wsj.com)
