Williams-Sonoma Finds Success with Fewer Promotions -- Market Talk

Dow Jones02:42

1342 ET - Williams-Sonoma CEO Laura Alber on an earnings call says efforts to reduce promotional levels has given customers certainty that the prices they see won't change in the near future. "They know the price is the price," says Alber. "It's also a comment on retailers like us to make sure that we give that great value the first time to the customer. The specialty retailer's efforts to reduce promotions have been a multi-year effort that's aided in part by in-house design capabilities and vertically integrated sourcing, allowing the company to put out quality products and compelling price points, the CEO adds. "It is this price value balance that allows us to continue to significantly reduce our promotional activity," Alber says. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
