Investors Raise Bets on Retail Results on Consumer Sentiment -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-23

1632 ET - The market is betting big on the retailers reporting next Tuesday as they take in consideration this past week's results from players such as Walmart, Target and Gap, as well as data on rising consumer sentiment in Republican households. Department stores Macy's and Nordstrom closed the week up around 8% and 4%, respectively. Fashion retailer Abercrombie & Fitch closed up around 7% after Gap raised its outlook for the year following a strong start to holiday season. Even Urban Outfitters, which has been struggling to get rid of unsold inventory through promotions and recently reported lower-than-expected same-store-sales, closed up around 4%.
