The new co-head of President-elect Donald Trump's "Department of Government Efficiency," or DOGE, appears to be focused on efficiency at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Minutes after SEC Chair Gary Gensler tweeted out his plans to resign effective Jan. 20, Elon Musk responded on X: "Is it true that the SEC only works one day a month in the office?"

Musk has feuded with the SEC for years. In 2018, the tech billionaire agreed to pay a $20 million fine and step down as Tesla's chairman to settle a securities-fraud investigation, stemming from a tweet that implied he had secured funding to take Tesla private. He has also been investigated by the SEC over stock-purchase disclosures ahead of his takeover of Twitter, and mocked the agency as the "Shorseller Enrichment Commission."
