Jack in the Box Gains During E. Coli Outbreak -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-21

0828 ET - Fast-food chains are struggling with declining consumer traffic, including Jack in the Box, but rivals to McDonald's have seen some benefit after an E. coli outbreak surrounding McDonald's Quarter Pounders sickened customers last month. California-based Jack in the Box says in a F4Q earnings call that its same-store sales improved later this year, and it and other McDonald's rivals benefited some from the burger giant's challenges. Jack in the Box transactions declined in F4Q compared to last year. Shares down 4% in premarket trading. (heather.haddon@wsj.com; @heatherhaddon)
