STMicroelectronics (STM) plans to partner with Chinese foundry Hua Hong to start manufacturing microcontroller chips in in Shenzhen by the end of 2025, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing STMicroelectronics Chief Executive Officer Jean-Marc Chery.
Advantages of securing manufacturing capacity in China include cost benefits of supply chains and compatibility issues, said Fabio Gualandris, STMicroelectronics head of manufacturing, according to the report.
STMicroelectronics and Hua Hong didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
