South Korea's Kospi Rises 0.8%, Led by Defense, Shipbuilding, AI Chip Stocks -- Market Talk

0700 GMT - South Korea's benchmark Kospi rose 0.8% to close at 2501.24 as foreign and institutional investors were net buyers. The index gained 3.5% for the week. Defense, shipbuilding and artificial-intelligence chip stocks led the session's gains. Howitzer and aircraft-engine maker Hanwha Aerospace rose 6.5%. Shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries advanced 3.7%. Power-plant and construction-equipment company Doosan Enerbility rose 5.7% after regulators confirmed its merger plans. Memory-chip maker SK Hynix added 4.7%, tracking its U.S. peers including Micron Technology. USD/KRW settled 0.3% higher at 1,401.80 in Seoul onshore trading. The South Korean 10-year government bond yield was up 0.1 bp at 2.979% (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
