Sony Group (TYO:6758) is considering acquiring Japanese publisher Kadokawa Corp. (TYO:9468) to enhance its content portfolio, especially with the hit game Elden Ring, according to Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.
Sources indicate that Sony and Kadokawa have been in talks, although a formal offer is not guaranteed, said the news wire.
Both companies are major shareholders in FromSoftware, known for popular PlayStation games like Elden Ring and Bloodborne, which is a key interest for Sony, the report said.
Kadokawa shares fell over 5% in morning trade Thursday, while Sony shares were down over 1%.
