Adidas Looks Set to Leverage Nike's Weaknesses -- Market Talk

Dow Jones11-26

1040 GMT - Adidas is entering a new chapter of its story in North America and appears well-positioned to leverage Nike's weaknesses, UBS analysts write in a note. The region could become a growth driver for the German sporting-goods company for the years to come, with the basketball category potentially emerging as a key growth pillar, they say. The company can make a significant impact in the category, where the market-share gap versus Nike has historically been the largest, UBS says. Furthermore, Adidas has an improved production process, with the ability to prototype product design locally, before commercializing it on a global scale. This enables it to respond to shifting tends in apparel and footwear, a critical advantage in the highly competitive market, they say. Shares are down 0.6% at 219.90 euros.
