Canopy Growth said Tuesday that it has appointed Luc Mongeau to succeed outgoing Chief Executive David Klein, effective in the new year.

Mongeau brings with him a wealth of experience, the Smiths Falls, Ontario-based cannabis company said, with over 25 years of experience as a senior executive. Most recently he was the CEO of ESolutions Furniture.

Previously, he held the role of President for Weston Foods, a Canadian bakery, as well as President of Mars Petcare North America, the core business unit of a large pet-care company.

He joined the Canopy board in early 2023 as an observer, and then became a board member in February of this year.

Klein will continue in his role as CEO and a director until the effective date of Mongeau's appointment on Jan. 6, after which he will shift into a special adviser role until the end of August.

Klein had been in the CEO role for four years when he announced his retirement in August.
