A DHL cargo plane flying from Germany to Lithuania crashed near Vilnius airport Monday, according to an airport spokesperson.

The accident killed one person and injured three others, local police confirmed.

The plane was operated by Swiftair on behalf of DHL and had departed from Leipzig in Germany before it crashed outside Vilnius airport at around 0530 local time (0330 GMT), the airport spokesperson said.

"The city's special services are working at the scene and leading the rescue efforts, as well as crews from the Vilnius Airport Fire Service," the spokesperson said.

Scheduled departures of several aircraft were delayed earlier, but all are currently landing and taking off from Vilnius airport.

DHL and Swiftair declined to comment.
