Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise in Short Black Friday Session

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 0.9%.

US benchmark stock indexes rose in midday trading Friday in the session set to close early at 1 pm ET.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE), and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both gained 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 1.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 1.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added 1.4%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) shed 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil eased 0.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.1%. Natural gas gained 4.9%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) jumped 5.5%.

Gold rose 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.8%. Silver climbed 1.7%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 1.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also rose.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.8%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) advanced.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.5%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also climbed. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) climbed 0.7%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also advanced.
