Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed After Nonfarm Payrolls Report

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM AND IVV rose. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) climbed 0.8%.

US equity indexes were mixed after midday trading on Friday, while most government bond yields declined as investors digested the November nonfarm payrolls report.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both fell 1.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) advanced 0.6% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) added 1%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 1.3% higher, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) edged up 0.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was fractionally lower. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.2%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil eased 1.4%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 1.4%. Natural gas edged up 0.1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 0.7%.

Gold was 0.4% firmer on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.2%. Silver gained 0.3%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) shed 0.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) added 0.1%, while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) lost 0.5%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 1.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) climbed 1.6%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was 1% higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) edged down 0.4% and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) dipped 0.2%. Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) slipped 0.2%, while iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) advanced 1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) lost 0.4%, while iShares US Industrials (IYJ) was fractionally higher.
