Hong Kong's total stock of inward direct investments rose 6.2% year over year to about HK$18.4 billion as of the end of 2023, according to data from the city's census and statistics department released Tuesday.
The figure was 616% of the city's gross domestic product in 2023, the department said.
The stock of the city's outward direct investments rose 3.8% to HK$17.7 trillion, equivalent to 594% of GDP in 2023.
Majority of Hong Kong's inward direct investments were from mainland China, comprising 31.1%, and the British Virgin Islands at 30.5%.
Total direct investment inflows reached $954.9 billion in 2023, lower compared with $958.4 billion in 2022. Outflows fell to HK$752.9 billion from HK$931.3 billion, leading to a net direct investment inflow of HK$202 billion.
