Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV fell after midday Monday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) edged down 0.8%.

US equity indexes fell amid declines in the communication services sector, while investors consolidated ahead of inflation-related reports this week.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE), and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each rose 0.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) lost 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 0.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was down 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 2.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 2%. Natural gas edged up 4.4%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 3.5%.

Gold was up 1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 1.2%. Silver advanced 3.4%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 3.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) dropped while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) rose fractionally.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dipped 0.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) advanced.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was fractionally lower, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) rose and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fractionally down. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.8%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
