NorthWestern Energy (NWE) said Thursday into a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to own 10% of the 3,000-megawatt North Plains Connector transmission line located between North Dakota and Montana.
Construction of the North Plains Connector, a joint project of Grid United and Allete (ALE), is expected to begin in 2028, with the transmission line anticipated to be operational by 2032. NorthWestern said it will invest in the project when regulatory approvals and permits have been secured.
