Singapore Shares Consolidate Ahead of Event-Packed Week -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-16

0114 GMT - Singapore shares consolidate, with market focus on events this week including FOMC meeting and major U.S. economic data like retail sales. The uncertainty that these events bring could "initially result in further position squaring and limit buying activity in risk," says Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone, in commentary. The FTSE Straits Times Index is little changed at 3809.98. Top advancers on the benchmark index are Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which rises 1.7%, and SATS Ltd., up 0.8%. Meanwhile, Singtel falls 1.3% and Singapore Exchange is down 1.0%. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
