1122 ET - Companies in the media and cable space are in for a robust 2025 as key themes will shape the year, say analysts at BofA Securities in a research note. First is that M&A activity is finally going to happen. The analysts say the media industry needs another wave of consolidation, and hints are there that it's set to take place between Comcast's spinoff and a new administration that will likely be more business friendly. Second is live events will continue to be robust, supported by long-term drivers including consumer spending shifts that can fuel growth for years. The analysts also note advertising should improve, and sports will still be in demand. By comparison, 2024 had a mixed performance due to a combination of company specific dynamics against a backdrop of persistent secular and cyclical factors, say the analysts.
