United Microelectronics (TPE:2303) said it has no plans to build a production site in the US following speculations that the company may face pressure to invest there, Taipei Times reported Thursday.
This follows reports suggesting that with US President-elect Donald Trump returning to office, there could be increased pressure on UMC to expand in the US market. However, UMC clarified that it is focusing on its ongoing project with Intel to develop a 12-nanometer semiconductor process, set for production in Arizona by 2027, the publication said.
UMC also emphasized that the visit by American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene was part of a scheduled meeting, with no discussions on US investments, the report noted.
