Imports Rush Into Southern California Ports -- Market Talk

Dow Jones12-18

1631 ET - Retailers and manufacturers are rushing in cargo in big numbers into Southern California ports. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in November handled the equivalent of 890,988 20-foot import containers, down 6.2% from an unusually strong October but up 20% from November last year. The ports expect strong volumes to continue for months as importers avoid the threat of labor disruptions at East Coast ports and ship early ahead of potential tariffs under a new administration in Washington. The ports this year have handled more than 9,212,000 import boxes, one million more than in all of 2023. (paul.berger@wsj.com)
