Hong Kong's Total Employment, Vacancies Down in September

Total employment in Hong Kong's private sector declined by 0.8% or 21,700 persons year over year in September, with total vacancies falling 18% to 66,460, data released by the Census and Statistics Department on Friday said.

In September, the surveyed industries employed a total of a little over 2.7 million people.

Of this, the import and export trade employed 355,700 people, professional and business services engaged 311,300 persons, and retail trade had 237,100 people employed.

Of the private sector vacancies in September, 6,690, 6,590, and 6,210 were from the industry of education, human health services, and professional and business services.

Compared with June, the seasonally adjusted total employment and total vacancies in the surveyed industries declined by 0.3% and 9.4%, respectively, in September.
